College Football Graduate Assistant Positions

The ladder to becoming a Football Coach?
I have been thinking lately about where to get started and I was wondering if someone with experience if this 'outline' is doable. Basically I have played football for about 5 years (2 years in HS), but I don't plan on playing for college. What I intend to do is go to college that has a football team and be a position assistant (Is this possible?). If that is possible, once I get my bachelors degree, i will try to become a graduate assistant and pursue my masters. So far, is this basically one way of earning my 'stripes' of being a position/assistant/head coach for football? I would appreciate serious answers. Thanks. Any other advise would be great as well.
So yeah...is anyone out there?
It's doable. But it's hard work, long hours, no pay or minimal pay.
The only way to know is to contact someone on the college football staff of the place you are planning to attend. Contact the head coach's office, explain your situation and desire and see what's available.
I had a friend in college who was an assistant. He said that it's hard work, long hours, no pay. You really have to love it to stick with it. Plus, there aren't really advancement opportunities unless someone leaves and you happen to be really good at coaching.
But give it a shot. Maybe it'll work out for you. You'll never know unless you try. Good luck!
