How could enter Oregon St. Rose if USC loses to UCLA?

Maybe someone can clarify this for me. All the articles I read say Oregon State still can get into the Rose Bowl if USC loses to UCLA next week. However, USC has a 10-1 record. Oregon St. is 8-4. If you lose USC, which would be tied with OSU for conference victories, but in general, USC would still have the best record. even with a defeat of the week. Does it matter it not? I hope this is not so. If so, then only it shows how utterly ridiculous the BCS ranking are in the football university.

If USC loses and wins, OSU OSU is tied for first, and they hold the tiebreaker. But I agree the BCS is a joke and every year is exposed more and more for the fraud it is.
