The ND football team, the University of Notre Dame, Illinois, has the nickname of the ighting Irish from its worst start in November 1887, this team has become one of the toughest teams in the U.S. football university.

One more game recent century occurred during the 1993 season in a game against Florida State. This was a championship game because both teams were ranked first and second in the league. Notre Dame led throughout the game with the score early in the fourth quarter 31-17 for the team. The last quarter was a nail biter right to the final seconds, when Florida scored a touchdown making the final score of 31-24. Notre Dame has reached the top once again.
