Eight Man Football is a fast growing sport

In the past 10 years, soccer continues to grow in popularity at all levels, high school, college and professional, a new approach has been implemented. Eight man football has grown in popularity, especially during this decade. Now 18 states have official associations of the eight-man teams of high school.

This is where the sport, and that premium, six man football, got it started. Small high schools, without the population of male athletes are bigger schools could not field competitive squads man eleven years. On the defensive side of the ball, the most common change to training implies the elimination of two defensive backs and a defensive lineman. A common defensive formation is a 3-3-2 with a tackle nose, two defensive ends, three linebackers and two defensive backs.

In general, due to the smaller field and fewer players, the pace of eight man football is fast and the scores are high. It is not uncommon to see scores like 72-64 on a regular basis. About 100 games are not unknown. Many state associations using a ruler of mercy when a team is up by 45 or more points as a result.

I started reading on eight and six man football because my sons both played very little for teams of high school football. Most of the time, due to the lack of depth, most players play both ways and on special teams. My two children were more or less on the football field for every game the whole game.

Luckily, my children were able to play good teams. However, some of the teams we played really struggled to field a team, much less be competitive. Looking at the history of the eight man game, it seems like a great solution for small schools to allow children to play the game of football without suffering through four years of losing on a regular basis.

The game seems to be a great alternative for the eleven-man football in popularity that seems to show that many others think so.
