Leeds United Boss Dennis Wise - 1 Year Review

October 24, 2007 marked a year since Dennis Wise agreed to take over as Leeds United at Elland Road.

Its just that the fans were very skeptical of Leeds chairman Ken Bates to him inside the fear and paranoia were rife among a battered and bruised support club who were convinced that Chelsea connection was a conspiracy to oversee the final demise of our great club.

My first reaction the appointment of Dennis was of cautious optimism. Whatever your opinion about Wise has been successful everywhere it has been - as a player and manager. It also has the drive and great struggle desperately needed by a club sinking rapidly into the abyss.

The fact that the new governor was unable to stop our descent brought doubts my mind that maybe the event would not work. However, it is clear that the situation was impossible last season when Dennis came through the door. It was bad enough leakage in the Premier League 6 goals in Portsmouth, but sending 5 to Luton in the Championship? The unfortunate situation resulting from dressing room former boss Kevin Blackwell's reign was like a cancer. The club lurched from one crisis to another, from one mole with a piece of filtering equipment to a captain who asked to leave the ship.

Then followed the most horrendous summer of our history or someone elses. It would have been easy for Dennis to walk on several occasions. It was not clear, right up to the eve of the season, if you even have a team to support at Tranmere Rovers on the opening day. I remember going to the preseason game at York thinking it might be our game each last time.

Therefore the onset of blistering team have made this season in the most extreme circumstances is quite incredible. What joy is to be anticipating a victory is possible each week, after seemingly endless torment of the past years. Manager Consecutive Month Awards say a lot about the hard work already done Wise and continues to do.

Well done Dennis, thanks for turning around our great club in the last 12 months.
