college football award winners
What do yall think of this idea? A NCAA Football Tournament!?

You give every Division 1-A conference a championship game, then give the conference winners an automatic bid like in college basketball. That gives you 12 teams. Then have 12 at-large bids also like college basketball and have the 24 teams play it out for the National Championship. Then the bowl games can be like NIT games. This makes it fair and teams can still be awarded for their regular season accomplishments. I know that will probably never happen in this lifetime, but what do you guys think?

I’d go for any playoff system that put the teams on the field to decide who qualifies for a championship game and not some media poll.

24 teams won’t work unless you give 8 a bye for the first game. 8 or 16 teams would work.

There are a lot of possibilities. For example, you could have the 12 conference winners plus 4 at large teams based on some criteria. Or you could have 8 or 16 teams chosen by some NCAA committee. There would be arguments about who should be included, just as there are in the 65 team basketball tourney, but.. most would agree that the top 4 to 6 teams would be getting a fair shot.

As others have said, a playoff won’t happen as long the fat and happy university presidents continue to get the money that the current BCS/bowl game system provides. They may or may not be football fans, but they are all big money fans.
