College Football Big East Standings

How college football championship work?
I've been watching some college ball recently, but I am confused about how to operate the standings ... such as, how to qualify for the glasses? What's the difference between all the different conferences and groups such as Big 12 .. this great IAA and Division III, etc. .. is similar to the NFL? there was more emphasis on beating Texas Tech Texas other than the two being undefeated at the time? there playoffs? whens the championship and what determines that get there? thanks for the info
Theres a system called BCS system. Is a software system that classifies all college football teams (mostly top 25) based on their record, strength of schedule and point differential. The BCS system determines which team goes to the cup game at the end of the year. The winner of each conference goes to a BCS bowl game (Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and the championship game BCS. All bowl games other are determined only by invitation and is based off of each nationally ranked teams. The importance of beating TT UT is that they have positioned themselves (to have an unbeaten record) to be in the championship game 12 large thus qualifying them for a BCS bowl game.
