College Football - Statistics late last year show how the nation's top five teams can be beaten

It is not often when coaches and media agreed on the view that should be in the preseason Top 25 ballot Football university, but this year at least their top 5 picks are mirror images-Florida (1), Texas (2), Oklahoma (3), Southern California (4) and Alabama (5).

Of 60 possible first-place votes in AP Top 25 Media Poll, Florida and Texas got 58 votes to 2, setting a record (96 +%) for most of first-place votes since the poll first began in 1950, long before they ever Bowl Championship Series (BCS) games.

Florida is such a favorite one would think that there is no need to play the games this year, as the Gators will probably run the table (undefeated). This, of course, is nonsense.

Florida won the National Championship in 2006 and 2008 seasons and, if repeated in 2009, the Gators became the second team to do so since Nebraska won the National Championship 3 out of 4 years, winning the absolute title in 1994 and 1995 and split the title in 1997.

However, going undefeated to do so is quite another matter. It's hard to go undefeated in a major conference, and then win the national title.

For starters, only one team (Utah 13-0) went undefeated last season and that was because Utah does not play a major conference. Utes played in the SEC, the Pacific 10, Big 12 or Big Ten Conference, there is no way it would be defeated.

Florida, southern California and Texas lost a game last season. Oklahoma and Alabama were hit two times.

You may be interested to know that the best team in the nation last year statistically was not Florida, which won the National Championship beating Oklahoma 24-14, but Southern Cal. Yes, USC. Maybe that's why he won Florida, Oklahoma, who were playing and Southern California for the title.

Oklahoma had a big offensive 1 national ranking team in scoring (51 points +), 3rd in passing offense (349 + yards per game) and 3 in total offense (547 +), But the defense was nothing to get excited Afternoon. They were 99th in pass defense, 68 in total defense and scoring defense 58th. There are only 119 BCS (Division 1-A) teams.

Florida's pass defense ranked 20th and the Gators held Oklahoma to just 14 points, despite that the crime of Oklahoma No. 1 score in the country. Shoot, the Sooners scored 51 points per game, but gave up 24 a game, exactly what Florida scored to win the title. The Gators were classified 4th in points of defense, yielding only 13 (12.93) points per game. This shows how an average of accurate statistics can be in the course of a season.

Texas was terrible passing defense, range of 119 104 teams. You may remember that Texas Tech beat Texas 39-33 last year on a pass play in the NFL in the first round Michael Crabtree selection. Texas A & M has flooded Texas 49-9 last year, partly because the defense of Texas A & M was ranked 95th going, only slightly better than that of Texas, who was the 7th best passing offense.

Alabama was 7 th in scoring offense last year, but its air offensive was 97 (yikes) and was its only 63 minutes total offense. The Crimson Tide defense won 2nd most of their games, ranking in rushing defense, 3rd in total defense and 7th in scoring defense. It sounds a lot like coach Nick Seban.

So what is wrong with Southern California? Well, their offense was pretty balanced, ranking in the 22 run, pass and score. The defense was the best in the nation, ranking 1st in passing defense and 1 on defense points, 2nd in total defense, and 5th in rushing defense.

Think about it, the country's leading defense in 2 categories and be among the top 5 in pass defense by land and the total defense and scoring defense. USC was one of defeat on the road to Oregon State, 27-21.

USC was unfairly penalized by the interviewers in selecting participants BCS title game? I think so. Heck, Alabama lost 31-20 to Florida on the road, so the Gators deserved a chance.

But Oklahoma? Get real. The Sooners lost to Texas at home, 45-35. Only the score of the game makes you tremble, 80 points between them, a difference of 48 points between the USC and the State Oregon, and USC was on the road. If you think Oklahoma Oregon State (9-4 last year) was an easy prey, they must play the Beavers at home, where they were 5-1, losing only to Oregon.

So what does this mean? Well, Oklahoma was the best offensive team in the country last year, and Southern California was the best defensive team, no argument when you look at the statistics.

Despite being the best offensive team in the country, could not beat Oklahoma Florida, losing 24-14. Southern California, which sent No. 6 Penn State 31-16 in the Rose Bowl BCS game, but Florida could have been held below 24 points. Never know.

What we do know is that Southern California had a better passing offense, a more balanced offense and a defense that goes far better than Florida.

There is a reason why the Sagarin College Football Ratings are Southern California, not Florida, as the best team in its preseason poll 2009. The reason is because they are based on real statistics of last year and the results, not opinion.

As I see it, Florida was fortunate that he faced Oklahoma, which has lost 4 of their last 5 BCS. In other words, lame as Ohio State, which has lost two straight BCS National Championship Games to Florida and LSU in 2006 and 2007 and then lost again to Texas in the BCS game last year.

Let's say, East Coast bias between coaches and media is really bad. Two factors are driving this inequality. One is the population to 58% of the population (approximately 175 a 300 million) live on the east coast. The second is the time difference as the west coast is 3 hours behind the east coast.

When media types get to watch soccer Saturday about 10:30 pm EST, key games are starting on the west coast and never seen by the voters of the survey. They are overwhelmed with the observation East Coast football, and remain a servant of her slave.

If the powers that be about the size of grapefruit at all, when Florida got rid of Oklahoma, its next task for the national title should have been Southern California, then we would have seen the rubber hit the road.
