Without a playoff, how do you know who deserves to be in the title game?

That's how stupid college football is. How do you know that Ohio St or Boston College is any good when they refuse to play a decent non-conference schedule??? How do you know which of the 50 1-loss teams are better than the others?? How do you know when teams like Hawaii are any good when they don't play anybody??

You don't know. The ones that go to the national title game are the ones who finish best in a combination of computer rankings and biased, fraudulent polls.

i know. that would be like ending the season right now, and LSU wouldnt even be in a bcs game. i dont like lsu, but they are good. the bcs is ridiculous. it all matters on how many points you win by. to me, the only thing that matters is the W. if you have the best record, you should be higher up. it doesn't always work that way. for example, boise state was undefeated last year, didn't make it. what's up with that? you will never know who the true national champion is with the bcs. i would like to see a small playoff between the top 8 teams. i think a playoff for the top 8 would be reasonable, keeping the same bcs system for the remainder of the top 25 teams determining their bowl games.
