college football divisions explained
Can anyone explain to me what "walking on" means at the college level?

Why would one have to do such a thing?
Are there advantages or disadvantages?
Someone also told me that some high school players have to go to junior college for a certain amount of time before they are able to go to a division one school.
Why is this?
How many different ways can one get to play football at a D1 school?
Also, can someone explain the process that happens when you go from high school to college football. Do the college coaches contact you or how do things work exactly?

The didn't ge a scholarship to the school they want to. so they go to the school they want and then walk on the field and then try out.

There is no advantages or disadvantages besides that as a walk on you do not get any money for school for the first year.

They don't have to go to a J C and the only time they go is if their grades are really bad if not the they can go to a D2 college and play football their for 4 years.

You make a highlight tape of you playing football and send it out to alot of schools but if you are a really good football player the scouts will come out and watch you play football. Then they will come and talk to you about how the are interrested in you. And then you can comitt to a school.

And an added answer is you can also red shirt which means that you are part of the team but can't play any games so you can go five years but can only play for 4 years.
