college football fcs teams
Why the traditional ex historical powers such as Yale and Princeton are falling off the map in college football?

I mean why eventually become Div-1AA or FCS subdivision teams. I've always what happened to the teams as Harvard, Pennsylvania, Cornell, so I'm assuming that they all could not maintain as traditional powers today due to the fact that more schools were producing football and the fact that recruitment was difficult for them because to its high standards in education. But then why is it able to keep Duke and Stanford University in the men's basketball pretige.

I guess is because the higher academic schools ended up focusing more on maintaining a high level of education instead of putting so much emphasis on athletics.
