Can I visit America if I've been arrested before?

I am 19 and live in Ireland and I am due to travel to America for a football(soccer) tournament in march. I was arrested last year for being drunk and disorderly(I was assaulted by my friend and we were both drunk), I was never charged or even cautioned. I went up to the gardai station to ask will it affect me going to America and they said no it shouldn't be a problem. I also have been offered a soccer scholarship by a college in America. I'm just wondering will it affect my chances of entering America and gaining a student visa?
So I should be ok. It's just that you hear of people being refused entry for stupid little things, thanks for the help.

If you were not actually convicted of a crime, you will not have a problem. You can see from the sites below that your offense will not prohibit you from entering the .S....and , anyway, you were not convicted by a court.
