NFL or UFC?: Soccer players are making the switch to Mixed Martial Arts
NFL or UFC?
In the recent past wrestlers dominated the sport of Mixed Martial Art, a very physical sport where fighters battle each other for victory in an octagonal cage. MMA fighters have started the "Modern Day Gladiator" title of soccer players, and for good reason. These sometimes bloody battles are the ultimate test of one's ability athleticism, endurance and guts. For football players, highly competitive nature seems to attract to the sport of MMA. Football players are required to prove their worth, and the octagon gives them a suitable platform to test their abilities.
From Heisman Trophy winner, Herschel Walker, a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Marcus Jones, NFL players are meeting with the sport of MMA in droves. Are the days his retirement as a sports commentator after the race more, or are serious football players make the transition to this physically demanding sport?
Size Matters
Reigning UFC heavyweight Brock Lesnar, might have something to do with the current interest soccer players. The much hated Lesnar has beaten his opponents past with relative ease, and its size and capacity appear to be matched by the current group of contenders MMA heavyweight. This scenario has opened the door to many football stars, which are considerable in comparison with Lesnar, and can leverage a large amount of athletic ability.
Why not bring big as a wrestler Rulon Gardner, who on December 31, 2004 Hidehiko Yoshida fought in a martial arts fight mixed for the PRIDE Fighting Championships. Yoshida, who besides being an MMA fighter, was a former Olympic gold medalist in judo, was defeated by unanimous decision by Gardner. Apparently, the group of talented football players is much larger than any other sport, including wrestling. As MMA exploded in popularity, a simple matter of supply over demand emerges as fight promoters looking to fill the fight card. With demand comes the money, and a night of fighting can leave bags A former football player flush with cash, something that might not be able to do after the race if his football career was less than superlative.
Training
San Diego Chargers fullback Lorenzo Neal, for example, has trained several times over the past two years with UFC light heavyweight Chuck Liddell. Neal, who knows Liddell through their days as wrestlers in college, helps to train for fights Liddell, namely running out for Liddell help with stronger rivals. Neal also said the training also helps with balance and body control that translate well on the football field.
Although current NFL players use purely for training MMA and competitive struggle, former Redskins receiver Michael Westbrook Washington made the transition to the fight in 2005 when he defeated another former NFL player Jarrod Bunch in a King of the Cage event.
Jared Allen, a defensive end with the Kansas City Chiefs, Sports Training Battle of Arizona in the offseason. "The cardio-combatants to go through is intense, "said Allen. "This season did not do any running. I did my cardio Arizona intense combat sports. When I went to minicamp in the spring, we were running sprints the wind one day and I had more gas than I knew what to do with. Cardiovascular level of these fighters is so intense because their lives depend on them are not tired. "Allen says he lost 25 pounds this summer and MMA training has toned down in the process.
The fact is clear, the soccer players are taking MMA as a training method. In addition, they are finding the transition to competition to be a viable alternative to running an illegal operation fighting dogs to supplement retirement income. Hey, I could not complete this article without a joke Ron Mexico. Therefore, it seems that we will see more players Football migrating to the sport, and this is good for football and mixed martial arts.
