Texas Tech University is represented by the Texas Tech football team Raiders. They are part of Big 12 Conference, a Division 1 Bowl Subdivision (or formerly known as Division IA) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The football team began in 1925 and has a winning record overall. The team is being coached by Mike Leach. home games are played at Jones AT & T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.
Texas Tech, and TTU, as is more commonly known, played its first intercollegiate football game on October 3rd, 1925. This was a controversial game, because it was a 0-0 draw against McMurry University when the referee ruled that the clock had run out before the score.
Texas Tech University? S first head coach is Ewing Freeland, who was 21-10-6 list for its four-year term as coach. Before being known as the Raiders were known as the killer. After Freeland, Grady Higginbotham led the team with little success thus only .200 winning percentage. After a year of just one victory two draws and seven losses, the team was led by Pete Cawthon who led the Raiders for the next eleven seasons. His winning percentage has not been surpassed 0693 at Texas Tech on this date.
The Raiders have been an independent team of its first seven years. Cawthon was during the era who joined the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
There were two coaches who were after Cawthon in the post for a decade. Dell Morgan began training in 1941, with a record of 55-49-3 in three appearances ended in a bowl. DeWitt Weaver began his career in 1951 with a 49-51-5 record. He coached the Raiders to their first victory drink in a game against Pacific in the 1951 Sun Bowl
The Raiders left the BDIAA at 19,956 and became independent for the next three years. The Raiders joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996, which is known as the only team in the Big 12 to have a winning season every year since the beginning s Big 12?.
Milestones and Achievements
The Raiders enjoyed a lot of "firsts" at the time of Cawthon. In 1934, he referred first as the Red Raiders. They were also the first team to blow a game in 1937. They also received the first postseason invite the 1937 Sun Bowl
During the 1938 season, Cawthon led the Raiders to become the only team in college football history to have an undefeated regular season. The 1939 Raiders still have a continuous record the NCAA for most punts in one game. Was cleared by 39 times while playing in a torrential downpour.

The Raiders are proving to be a group and as they begin next November with a victory over No. 1 Texas Longhorns. This has been consolidated by a pass from quarterback Graham Harrell to All-American receiver Michael Crabtree with 8 seconds left. This has been billed as the largest party in the history of Texas Tech, and has also led to the largest home crowd in the school history. Expect to see more of their games to build in this way as they are now the number two seed in all major polls, and Classification BCS.
