Analysis of the Impact Fantasy Football Draft 2009

2008 has been a tremendous year for rookies in fantasy football. I know because I shot two of them (Chris Johnson and Matt Forte) to a league championship. What will be the 2009 NFL Draft have been reserved for fantasy owners made this fall? Personally, I think this year class is talented as last year, but time will tell. The following are my preliminary take on the draft class 2009:

- Matthew Stafford QB (DET)

What kind of pro QB Stafford will be? Will it be like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco or more similar destination Tim Couch or Joey Harrington? Fantasy owners may not have the opportunity to discover the next season. While Lions coach Jim Schwartz said that maintaining the open mind in the battle for top spot in the lineup, most likely Daunte Culpepper will be the starting QB for Detroit when they open the season against the Saints in the Superdome September 13. This scenario does not allow much of Stafford a chance to make an impact on the atmosphere of fantasy. Moreover, it is difficult imagine a scenario in which out and has some value as a rookie. Ryan and Flacco were fifth-year seniors coming out of college and had a lot more maturity departure to the NFL to the value of the lower class is Stafford. Stafford will be limited to the doorman and dynasty league fantasy draft day.

- RB Knowshon Moreno (DEN)

Search 2009 top fantasy rookie? Well, look no further than Moreno. Moreno is by far the most talented rider in the class of 2009 and hope to come right in and become the starter for the Broncos. Although the Broncos are added several veterans from RB's past none season have roughly the same talent that Moreno. I see Moreno at running back No. 3 fantasy in 2009 with a potential for more. However, due to the depth of the Broncos are in position, the first Bulldog is more likely to be seen as a viable flex starter in most projects. Obviously, it is also a huge choice keeper leagues and dynasty.

- Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB (AZ)

The Arizona Cardinals took state power Ohio back with their first round selection, establishing an interesting battle depth chart this summer. Most experts believe that Wells is the second best prospect in the draft behind Moreno RB. In addition, Wells is a real update on Tim Hightower, and I hope Wells to emerge the top of table depth of the team as a rookie Hightower leaving to serve as third-from behind the defending NFC champions. Who gets the goal line, obviously, have a value more fantasy than the others but now I see Wells as the best option in the season and keeper leagues. Both Wells and Moreno will have difficulty meeting the standards set by Johnson, Forte and Slaton a year ago.

- Michael Crabtree WR (SF)

The loss of the 49's Raiders gain. After the Raiders went Crabtree SF know he eats well and they did. Crabtree was hailed as the receiver in recruitment, and will, no doubt, the opportunity starting as a rookie under coach Mike Singletary. The Niners are looking for the will of a former execution team this year, however, fantasy owners so must be taken into account starting in 2009. Still, it will be worth even half later to collect the whole year's fantasy draft season and is very capable of putting some good statistics as a rookie.

- Percy Harvin WR / KR (MIN)

Percy Harvin has landed in the first round despite some "character" issues and will become a serious playmaker for the Minnesota Vikings. Can you imagine the Vikings Harvin lining and Peterson in the Wildcat? Harvin has great speed and skill as a runner and receiver and I fully expect to compete with Sidney Rice for the number 2 WR next to Bernard Berrian. Due to its immense potential and explosiveness, Harvin is guaranteed a flywheel end of the year in most fantasy draft and probably will do some damage at any time of the Vikings. Moreover, Harvin makes instant Vikings DST even better than last year.

- WR Jeremy Maclin (PHI)

The Eagles Donovan McNabb finally gave some weapons. Maclin has great speed and can stretch the defenses in the vertical passing attack. On the other hand, was an absolute steal when the Eagles gave him. After watching an Eagles rookie WR impact last year there is nothing to say Maclin can not do the same. Look Maclin be a round later this summer and I am confident in selecting him to make some big plays for McNabb and the Eagles this fall.

- Eugene Monroe OT Eben Britton and (JAX)

Of course, offensive linemen are not drafted in fantasy football, but that makes them no less important to the success on your computer. Injuries absolutely decimated the Jaguars offensive line last season and was the primary reason the team failed to reach the playoffs after a successful 2007 season. The Jaguars want to return to football Jag so it was not surprising to see the land of both OT Eugene Monroe team in Round 1 and Eben Britton in round 2. The acquisition of both Monroe and Britton will only make that Maurice Jones drew a more attractive fantasy draft. Look for MJD to be a top 5 pick this summer.

- OT Jason Smith (STL)

Adding Smith is a real positive for the value of RB Steven Jackson. Now it's up to Jackson to stay healthy and produce the amount of fantasy owners have been longing for it for years. With a new defensive-minded head coach of the Rams want to run the ball and have Jackson in the backfield, and the presence of Smith will be enormous to make effective ground attack. Moreover, the Rams also added FB Mike Karney this season. As I have said that now everything depends on Jackson to reach their potential. No doubt will in the first round this year. Time will tell if it's worth.

- Sanchez Marcos QB (NYJ)

Mark Sanchez was the hottest name in the class of 2009 in the days prior to the project and after the persecution Jets Brett Favre last year was not a surprise that the Jets traded two draft picks and three players to move up and select him. Sanchez has begun Alth0ugh just 16 games in college, which could very well end up starting for the new coach Rex Ryan, when the Jets open their season. In fact, Ryan has told the media communication that Sanchez actually compete for the top spot with Kellen Clemens. Personally, I see Sánchez make noise this year as a rookie and to avoid the day of draft, except in keeper and dynasty leagues.

- WR Kenny Britt (TN)

The Titans are desperate for WR in recent years and hope you have reached your number one with Kenny Britt of Rutgers. Coach Jeff Fisher told the media that he wants to Britt in the field as soon as possible, so do not be surprised the view from the opening day. The Titans also signed former Steeler Nate Washington this offseason so it might be difficult for Britt to have a significant impact on the fantasy that will remain a run-based offense with Chris Johnson and LenDale White. He is definitely a player to watch in the preseason, but more than likely not be worth more than end the year in seasonal formats.

- WR Darius Heyward-Bey (OAK)

Being a big fan of the Raiders I was upset, but not at all shocked at this move. It is clear at this point that Al Davis values of pure speed, more than any other attribute. Was Jerry Rice quickly? Larry Fitzgerald is a burner? The answer to both questions is no, but one was the best there ever was and is the best today. Without however, no clear No. 1 receiver wide on the list of the Raiders, Heyward-Bey is guaranteed account in the later rounds of fantasy draft season and balls have been launched wide to him this fall. Time will tell how this all works out and Heyward-Bey and Crabtree will be linked forever.

- RB Donald Brown (IND)

Donald Brown immediately be thrown into the mix with the Colts and that spells good news for fantasy owners draft him this summer. I've never been actually sold in Joseph Addai and do not think the Colts are. Although, the new head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters that Addai will remain No. 1 team again, owners definitely should expect a commission situation evolve in Indy. Addai should get more carries, but any type of firing hurts its value as a seasonal as keeper leagues. Addai is only a No. 2 back in fantasy circles. As for Brown, it will be worth a middle class and late round pick and is a must for anyone drafting Addai.

In short, it will be interesting to see what kind of impact that these and the entire 2009 rookie class will in the 2009 season in the NFL. They have big shoes to fill last year's account.

Greetings and Beers
