college football overall rankings
Why do some people like College sports more than they like professional sports?

I've heard from people that are into college football or college basketball, that it's because of the money. They don't like to see athletes getting paid is this true? If it is that's nothing but jealousy. That's being a "player hater" literally. I hope this isn't the real reason. If you feel that it's more exciting then I can understand that. I like college basketball, because I like basketball overall. Now, I love NFL, I hate college football and to me the rankings and polls get confusing to me. I don't understand how the rank teams to get to these bowls by the end of the year and how that would affect next year's rankings. That stuff is confusing as hell to me. That's why I don't watch it. Now, if there's some information I can learn about how these rankings are decided for people like me who don't know crap about college football rankings maybe I'd enjoy watching it because I'd know what's going on as far as wins and losses.

Personally, I like college basketball better than the NBA. But I like NFL football better than college football. To me, they're just different.

Collegiate sports definitely have their downsides. The level of athleticsm is lower. The BCS straight up blows. But that doesn't necessarily mean college sports aren't as fun to watch. Sometimes the lack of athletic parity can be fun. I loved watching Rasheed Wallace in college destroying his competition. Ki-Jana Carter at Penn State rushing for 256 yards was unreal. And because there are so many college teams out there, you get to see more different styles of play as well. Things like the Kentucky press, and the Wishbone option play on offense don't exist in the pros because the sheer athleticsm of the defenders makes them hard to execute. But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch on the college level.

As for the point on money. I have to admit that it does corrupt the game. For some guys like Michael Jordan, it never changed their performance. For other guys like baseball player J.D. Drew or basketball player Derrick Coleman, it did. A lot of guys become less motivated when they sit in mansions and drive Ferraris to work. With a guaranteed contract, they become more interested in their stock portfolios than they are in improving their game. They get soft, lazy, etc. As a result, you sometimes see some degree of indifference amongst professional athletes.

Bottom line for me: If you love sports, you'll always find something worth watching at any level. It's just a matter of your tastes.
