college football radio show
What do you think about field turf that lights up with ads?

I heard on the radio that a company has developed artificial grass that has fiber optics in each blade. Actually the NFL bans ads on the turf, but college OK's it. The company says they can change the striping in a second from football to soccer to a light show for a rock concert, or change the endzone from one team's colors to another, complete with logo. What do you think? "Only" 1.8 million per installation. They also said that they can light up a ball carrier's footprints so that you can tell exactly where he stepped out of bounds. Personally, I think whacky ref calls are part of the game. It wasn't intended to be about precision, but about fallible people (I hate the Fox logo of a "mechanical" athlete). Am I alone in this?

As usual this would be great for owners and companies but be AWFUL for players. Artificial turf has brought about the end of more careers than anything. Artificial turf with fiber optics are I'm sure much worse...I can't imagine that the Player's Association will like this.
