College Football Rumors

Would I feel at home at UW-Madison even though I'm an out-of-stater?
A while ago I was accepted to UW-Madison. I'm really interested in going because it's one of the top schools in the country for my major, but I've heard that in-states aren't too keen on the out-of-staters. I live in Rhode Island, which a big reason as to why I applied to UW-Madison. RI has only 2 public schools, neither of which are renown for their academics.
I will be residing in the college dorms and living on a collegiate budget just like the other students. I chose UW-Madison for academic reasons (and because I love football =P), not because I want to get wasted every night at a big party school. I've lived in Ohio and have also been accepted to Ohio State. While OSU isn't ranked as well academically, I haven't heard anything bad about how in-staters feel about out-of-staters. Are these UW-Madison rumors true?
I can't speak to how the students are at UW-Madison, but I've spent some time in Madison and I'm from NH. The people in Madison (and all of WI) are some of the nicest people I've ever met. They might assume that being from New England you're not all that friendly, but I can't imagine them being unfriendly.
It's a great school. Go for it. There are nice people and not-so-nice people everywhere. You'll be just fine.
