Ed Bagley's Top 25 Polls - Week 12 - Two favorites to win big

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

There were 4 conditions of the 25 teams this week, but none of them mattered. What mattered were the two favorites to win big implications, Ohio State and Michigan and Oregon led Arizona survived. These events have caused changes in my Top 25 Poll. This is how I see it this week:

1) Alabama (11-0) - The Red Tide excluding 1-AA Chattanooga 45-0 to remain unbeaten and whites to face Florida for the SEC title and a shot at the national championship in a game against Texas. Alabama ends its season this week with a trip to Auburn. I do not see Auburn win this game.

2) Florida (11-0) - The torn Gators Florida International 62-3 to remain unbeaten. Just visiting Florida this week is maintained between the Gators and Alabama playing for a shot of being in the national championship final against Texas.

3) Texas (11-0) - The Longhorns beat Kansas 51-20 to remain unbeaten and on track to play in the national championship game against either Alabama or defending national champion Florida Gators. In beating Kansas, Colt McCoy extended his NCAA record for wins by a quarterback to 43 in 4 years. Texas travels to Texas A & M for their final game of the season.

4) Texas Christian (10-0) - Horned Frogs remained undefeated for the leveling of Wyoming 45-10, and become the first TCU team with a 11-0 overall record since 1938. Expected TCU Texas Texas A & M upsets this week for the Horned Frogs can move to the national championship final against either Alabama or Florida. News TCU last time and good luck, God speed. TCU ends his year of hosting absolutely pathetic 1-10 team in New Mexico.

5) Cincinnati (10-0) - Idle this week. Illinois is home to a weak team this week, but if you get a clash last game on the road, at Pittsburgh (9-1). The Panthers are rubbing hands.

6) Boise State (11-0) - The Broncos remained unbeaten by clubbing Utah State 52-21. Gets Nevada (8-3) at home this week and the Broncos better than being prepared. Nevada's offense scored 6 touchdowns in the first half last week, and has the country's 4th best scoring offense (41ppg). Boise State has the country best scoring offense (44 ppg).

7) Oregon (9-2) - The Ducks beat a very good 6-4 Arizona team 44-41 in the second overtime to settle to win a Pac-10 title and Rose Bowl berth against Ohio State (10-2) if they beat visiting Oregon State Beavers (8-3) in a winner-takes-all clash Civil War next Saturday in Eugene. This is the biggest game of the college football season to Alabama and Florida in the clash of SEC showdown (both teams must win this week the creation of the showdown.) The once-again Oregon Ducks have lost only two games away from home to Boise State and Stanford 11-0 7-4 and have played the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation among 245 Division I teams. Georgia Tech (12th toughest schedule), Pittsburgh (58th) Ohio State (54th) of Penn State (79) and Oklahoma State (67) have played easier schedules.

8) Oregon State (8-3) - raided the state Washington 42-10. Beavers have only lost to Cincinnati (10-0), USC (7-3) and Arizona (6-4), and have played the hardest schedule in the 24th nationwide.

9) Georgia Tech (10-1) - idle this week. Hosts Georgia in its last game. Georgia will try to get nasty about them.

10) Pittsburgh (9-1) - At rest this week. Travel to West Virginia this week and then host Cincinnati undefeated in their last game. The Panthers can not expected, but better than West Virginia beat make it count for something.

11) Ohio State (10-2) - Buckeye defense to beat Michigan 21-10 to win the Big Ten absolute in its last game. The next stop is Ohio State's Rose Bowl against either Oregon or Oregon State.

From No. 12, this survey is difficult to classify as any team with a straight face. Having said that, here goes nothing:

12) Penn State (10-2) - finished the season by kicking the mucus of the Michigan State 42-14 in its own grounds of the Spartans. The bulk (wink, wink) Michigan State defense allowed the Nittany Lions' Daryll Clark passes for 310 yards and 4 touchdowns. With a name like Daryll type should have sacked a dozen times. Coach Mark Dantonio needs to recruit some larger stronger, faster in the Midwest beef, or MSU is going backwards in a hurry. (Disclaimer: I am a graduate of Michigan State is not happy the lack of progress in the team this year. If the Spartans to be much worse, going backwards faster than Wolverines of Michigan. I am sick and tired of hearing talk about great new recruits Michigan State. My question is, where the hell are you? They certainly are not in the field.

13) Oklahoma State (9-2) - Just a poor team beat Colorado 31-28, but at least the Cowboys won, although they were riding sidesaddle. That is more than Wisconsin, LSU, Rutgers and Stanford can say This week, everyone was upset about alleged lesser lights. Oklahoma State travels to Oklahoma to end their season this week.

14) Iowa (10-2) - Close out Minnesota 12-0 with outstanding defensive effort on the road. The Hawkeyes rank 11th nationally in scoring defense and 87th in scoring offense. Season over. Iowa is waiting in prayer and supplication for a BCS bowl bid, they can not get.

15) Houston (9-2) - Beat Memphis 55-14. They have no real use Houston, I guess that's because I'm sort of traditional thinking that the defense should be part of the game. Cougars are the opposite of the Iowa Hawkeyes, who are all attack and defense that, and when I say no defense, no kidding. Houston ranks 3rd in the nation in scoring offense and 91 defense in scoring among the 120 major college teams. Houston ends the season 2-9 to the host team lost to Rice, Houston giving his victory 10.

16) California (8-3) - Upset Arizona ranked 18th last week 24-16 upset of 14th ranked Stanford (7-4) on the road-34-28 this week. Bears won when they had to against a very tough team. California had the 14th hardest schedule in the country. The Bears end their season on December 5 in Washington.

17) Stanford (7-4) - Finally beating Southern California was too much for the Cardinal to handle, as they lost 34-28 to California on his own ground. Stanford has 13 tough program in the country. Stanford Notre Dame hosts to end their season this week.

18) LSU (8-3) - was defeated by Mississippi (8-3) on the road-25-23. The Ole Miss Rebels, after a start slow season, he felt like intervening high cotton. LSU has played the hardest schedule 22nd in the country. The Tigers put end its season this week hosting Arkansas.

19) Clemson (8-3) - Beat Virginia 34-21. Travel to South Carolina (6-5) to end his season. The Tigers have played the hardest schedule 33.

20) Mississippi (8-3) - Upset LSU 25-23. Intended to be a top team in preseason polls, Ole Miss is finally adulthood. Travels to Mississippi state rival Mississippi State to end its season this week. Ole Miss Rebels have played the timetable difficult to 55th this season.

21) Wisconsin (8-3) - was upset by Northwestern (8-4) on the road-33-31. Only other losses were to Ohio and Iowa State. Badgers have played the hardest schedule 62. Wisconsin ends its season on December 5 in Hawaii.

22) Oklahoma State (9-2) - Slipped by Colorado 31-28. It is simply not relevant this year with Texas 11-0 in the same Grand Division 12 South. The Cowboys hit the road to end his season Oklahoma (6-5) this week. They face one of the biggest disappointments years, the Sooners. Oklahoma State has played the 67th hardest schedule.

23) Navy (8-3) - idle this week. Travel to Hawaii next. The Midshipmen have played the hardest schedule 72.

24) Brigham Young (9-2) - Beat Air Force 38-21, but must be in line behind the first 23 selections, because the Cougars have played the hardest schedule 80. It has great end of season showdown with his rival in the state Uath (9-2) next. Someone is going to be unhappy, the Cougars hope that will not be them because they are setting for the Utes.

24) Utah (9-2) - Beat San Diego State 38-7, but must be in line behind the first 24 selections, because the Utes have played the hardest schedule 82. Travel Brigham Young University (9-2) for the final years of confrontation.
