College Football Stats Leaders
What's all the hoop-la of this years College Basketball Coaches
College Basketball is upon us. With the inevitable demise of Former USC basketball coach Tim Floyd - the somewhat revived program sought a new leader in circumstances suppressed. With Statistics "> sanctions NCAA is coming, a whole class of recruitment has gone, and early defections to the NBA, a team once penciled in deepening Tournament 2010 man - even whispers of the Final Four - suddenly, the Trojans finished eighth or ninth in the PAC 10 is a realistic possibility. Perhaps only the State of Washington will be less successful.
So what was the coach willing to take an almost hopeless situation? Certainly not Pitt Jamie Dixon - I hope and desire to USC's first choice. Yes, he is from Los Angeles and his wife is an alumni of Troy, but to go from a program that cares, a program that is more concerned about his football 2015 recruiting class: Dixon was obviously a no-go.
All other preferred options were gone quickly. Former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy said no, while Reggie Theus was willing - but too controversial for an election in the state of the program. With seemingly nowhere to go and start at Ground Zero - USC surprisingly released an e-mail announcing that it has hired a trainer.
2009-2010 USC's Men And your Coach Basketball is ... Kevin O'Neil? Yes, the former coach at the University of Marquette, Northwestern, Tennessee and Arizona (Acting). Former assistant NBA to close friends, Jeff Van Gundy and Rick Carlisle and former coach of the Toronto Raptors.
This Blogger admits he was surprised and dismayed yet. Read each USC message board and fans were up in arms. The anger followed by depression hit the spot. After all ... This is USC!
Waiting a moment ... this is not football. This is a hoops program that even after three straight March Madness offers (which is considered a success here) fans struggled to fill seats. Realistically, who would have this job? Almost certainly NCAA sanctions looming and an indifferent fan base? A fan base that Tim Floyd was slowly waking up. Just to have hit the reset button as soon arose when Floyd charges to $ 1,000 a person linked to that of OJ Mayo.
No, despite the initial shock, and only after a brief attempt at research, I concluded, and I think USC athletic director Mike Garrett made the right decision in Kevin O'Neil. There would be a great name. I really only had two options: (1) Hire an established retreaded known to be clean, (2) Rent a hotshot wizard-and-coming up - and not knowing what you are getting.
O'Neil, also known as "KO", at least, knows basketball, is clean, and emphasizes education, defense, and spirit selfless. He does not attract the prima donna as May or first one and I do recruits. Program will be built slowly but ethically. And perhaps as his tenure as coach of Tennessee, will restore a franchise in ruins (5 wins last year), and let the next coach to be successful (20-win seasons, four consecutive times a Once the left).
Or, this may also end up like her over from one year to the Arizona Wildcats, where his notoriously volatile personality overwhelmed the players, assistants and even Lute Olson. All O'Neil had to do was keep his mouth shut for a year and would have been the next coach of a program of stories. Failed to do so and was expelled from the city.
Maybe it's just holding down the program and restoring a measure of respectability and discipline to taste Dixon back home to reconsider. Or maybe he will be thrown next retread resurrect his career in the fashion of Pete Carroll ... Or maybe you want to wear on the first season with players not accustomed to Tim Floyd O'Neil fire to the head and everything will spiral out of control.
This really is a car that can be quite fantastic or crazy. In any case, it is an intriguing car that was the best in a desperate situation.
