Why NCAAF rankings so f * KED up?

What USC has done so far to prove they are # 1, also ... be "USC"? Why not LSU # 1? The country was watching your mastery of VA Tech - one of the best defenses in college football? And we, who have beaten Florida so far to deserve the No. 3 spot? Western Kentucky? Troy? Just kidding! However, they are still ahead of teams like Oklahoma, after what he did Miami? And what about teams like South Carolina (ranked so low) and South Florida (or even qualify)? Is it because these are not the "schools rich?

There are only 3 very strong teams in the nation for me. That being LSU, OU, and USC in that order. They are classified as Flordia high Wisconisn only because teams like WVU and have not looked impressive. I hate the way South Florida isn't yet rated. They beat a top of the SEC and was in way. To me that is very impressive. As I said before I think the surveys are based on popularity.
