West Virginia V. Missouri: Good for College Football
There is still a week, both stations in Missouri and West Virginia and in that week Missouri has to beat a strong team of Oklahoma and West Virginia has to avoid looking past Pitt. But if both teams win on Saturday to finish No. 1 and No. 2 in the polls and the match-play for the national title would be good for college football much to the dismay of fans from other schools like Ohio State, and others who are lamenting the way it should be in the national title game even after losses unclassified opponents all season and other risks.
Why WVU will face Mizzou be good? Because maybe, just maybe, will some of the people who have a real system for national championship playoff against the dime.
Every year I hear bitching and moaning of the teams outside the struggle for national title complain of what should be considered. But this year the pitch is feverish, fed by the large number of disgruntled fans of other legitimate title contenders OSU, LSU, USC to Kansas to name a few.
Mizzou (then # 4) beat Kansas (then # 2) and Missouri moves to # 1 while Kansas fans complain a fall to fifth place and no hope at all for a national? Hey, I've never liked the way that voters punish a quality team to play and lose another quality team. But it's not like the fall is unfathomable and Kansas should be less than Mizzou. What ticks Kansas fans is that they are behind the Bulldogs 10-2 of Georgia who were not even "good enough" in his mind to make your game for the title of the conference.
Ok, maybe. Yes, the Bulldogs have two losses. One of them went to the Gamecocks who are always willing to play anyone in the nation and a tough team every year. The other time was not classified, but now # 14 Tennessee. They beat then # 16 Alabama, then # 11 Florida, then # 18 Auburn, and # 23 in Kentucky. They have earned that # 4 ranking does not matter what you think.
LSU fans are set, because after losing to Arkansas, which fell from first to seventh behind Ohio State, Georgia, Kansas, and Virginia Tech and are so far from title contention that the only way to go to the game this year is to buy tickets. This reduction is not horrible, considering both it was their second defeat of the season and reached an unranked foe.
Following are the Ohio State fans are furious because they still believe the Buckeyes is the best team in the nation. So be it, but the same was thought last year and can not be satisfied with the way OSU fans expected. This year, then lost Illinois unclassified, despite beating two top five teams also lost twice to teams not ranked, and a Michigan squad very questionable.
Hawaii fans? I feel your pain a lot, but I think it should be over 12. I'd put your team somewhere around eighth if he had anything to say. Hey, if the U.S. Conference champion went undefeated that any sane person who is to say they deserve a shot at the national title? No. Well, WAC is in the same league as the conference.
Mizzou's only loss so far came at the hands of then # 6 Oklahoma have to play once again Saturday. They beat an overrated # 25 Nebraska team, a tough and then # 24 Texas Tech team (who beat then # 2 Oklahoma) and # 2 in Kansas. Remember that this too, Missouri was not even ranked to start the season! That tells you who made some serious impressions on the road. Missouri is probably the feeling good story of the season pending the outcome of the games on Saturday.
West Virginia? Well it was only his loss to top-ranked team in South Florida who was unbeatable until their own destruction. Remember this is a team of SFU which debuted at # 2 in the BCS after this victory. WVU also beat then # 25 (and probably more classifieds) Rutgers, then # 22 Cincinnati, and most recently # 20 University of Connecticut, which is not so weak a team as some of the critics hope for you to believe they are. He also defeated Louisville, which, although not now a contender, was arrested very high in preseason and whose air strike gives the best defenses in the NCAA fits.
So before anyone starts to complain that they do not deserve to be where they are now, just remember we can go through all of the "so and so lost" a "so and so" who beat "so and so" who beat "so and so" scenarios you want. At the end is just a wash though. You can sit there like a OSU or LSU fan and stomach pain all you want about how and Missouri West Virginia could not win if you were in the national title game. And you probably thought the same about Illinois and Arkansas when you've played too much. But see how well that theory worked out right?
So Mizzou against Vest Virginia would be good for the championship series. And it would be even better if the "boys large "each year for the next five or six years are excluded, and we see how these teams continue to finish the season one and two.
If that happens? Well, you see a lot of schools and conferences that are struggling against a playoff today to board with the idea of this system. It's no fun being on the outside looking course in everything you listen to these people reporting a possible WVU Mizzou game in the title game if this happens will be about how the game is illegitimate and the BCS is arrested ... but only this year. When you win, it is legitimate, of course.
But do not worry. Mizzou and West Virginia has yet to win a more game each. But if not and I like Ohio State team returns to the dance? " Well just prolong the establishment of a real playoff system and significant.
