Has a player not ranked 1st or 2nd ever end up winning the Heisman after the final rankings?

I mean in the weekly Heisman rankings at espn.com. I don't remember a time when a person ranked 3rd or 4th ever winning the Heisman trophy so why do people even hype the thought of a 3rd or 4th ranked player winning the Heisman. I mean since college football has let the BCS take over, the Heisman voters have stuck to glue based on team performance as well as their top 2 Heisman ranked players. Which means whoever is ranked 1st usually always end up winning the Heisman with the 2nd ranked person having about a 0.5% chance of beating #1 out.
I mean I know it can happen in video games where a non-top 2 wins the Heisman. But this isn't a video game, reality sucks people get it in your heads.

I agree. I think the entire Heisman Trophy event needs to be rethought. There are so many versions of why a player should get it. Some say its the guy with the best stats. Some say its the guy on the best team. Some say it is the guy who means the most to their team.

The one I tend to agree with more then any is the player with the best stats having a tough schedule. The reason I say this is because you can't just give the highest stat person the trophy because some players are in systems and most any athlete could perform well in. Also the Heisman isn't an MVP trophy either. So that throws out the argument of who means the most.

There are so many different angles to this. They really need to re-evaluate just about everything that goes along with the Heisman.

I also think they should wait until the title game to award it. It takes too much time from these kids over their Christmas break and bowl preparation. And usually the two fighting for the Heisman are fighting for a title as well. Not always though.
