Alabama

The Bear. A simple word that when mentioned in the circles of college football refer to possibly the best football coach principal in the history of the game. Paul Bear Bryant is synonymous with the Alabama Crimson Tide and it can be argued that he was the man who really made a household name in Alabama. Bryant was undoubtedly the most successful coach in the history of the Southeastern Conference with Alabama teams that dominated the Conference during his tenure with the tide.

Bear Bryant began his career coaching at the University of Maryland in 1945. Bryant led the team to a successful season at 6-2-1 in his first season, but left work due to a power struggle with President of the University and the first Bryant decided that he would be better used elsewhere and left after one season.

Bryant left Maryland and went to coach at the University of Kentucky. Kentucky is when Bryant began to be known as a football coach. Kentucky Bryant lead to their bowl game for the first time in his second season as head coach in 1947. He enjoyed his greatest success in 1950, when he led the team to its first Southeastern title conference and beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the game, while a bowl of Oklahoma was ranked the number 1 team in the nation. Although Bryant would be alive to receive the honor, the Kentucky Wildcats were awarded the national championship 1950 season in 2005. All who live in Bryants players were there to accept the prize for the team.

Bryant would leave Kentucky in 1954 rejected the integration between the athletic department. Coached Texas A & M, as well as being named the Director of Sports. Bryant was only three years, but his first team was immortalized in a movie for ESPN called the boys departure. The boys covered the departure of the first preseason Texas A & M, with Bryant as head coach. Bryant had over 100 players to camp at the start, Texas during a heat wave where temperatures often reach over 100 degrees. The practice proved too much for many of the players, almost 70 players left the football program due to the intense conditions. Bryant was known for his nonsense attitude but this reinforced the fact.

Bryant remained in the Texas A & M for three years before becoming the coach of Alabama in 1958. Bryant coached at Alabama for 25 years, won six titles national and thirteen SEC championships. Bryant became the Alabama Crimson Tide a household name and turned himself arguably the best coach in history of college football. When he retired in 1982 was the all-time leader in victories with 315, which has since been adopted by the stature of Joe Paterno Bobby Bowden y.

The lasting legacy that Bryant went to Alabama is immeasurable, became a respected Southern school and turned the Crimson Tide in the possibly the most recognized in all of college football programs. To that end, Bryant is remembered as the greatest Crimson Tide to be increasingly involved in the football program.
