The Top 10 Sports Games of All Time

There have been hundreds of sports video games throughout the year. In less than forty years we have gone from Pong MLB 2K6 for Xbox 360. But the evolution of games has not always meant better games. Just because a game has flashy interfaces and better graphics, not necessarily of good gameplay. That is the reason that many PS2 and Xbox games are doomed to stay in discount bins at your local store games, while classical like NHL '94 and Tecmo Super Bowl continued obsessed sports fans. Here is my Top 10 of all time:

10. Jordan vs. Bird (NES) - Was the one-on-one gameplay is excellent? No, not really. But the game was innovative with the three-point competition and slam dunk contest long before it was presented in another site. For that reason alone deserves a place in the Top 10.

9. Madden 2005 (PS2, Xbox, GC) - The jump from '04 to '05 was huge. Introduced '05 control stick and hit the defensive midfielder to take control of the defense on par with the crime. Franchise mode is more or less the same as '04, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. What I like to do is build a team from scratch. I love taking the worst team in the league and creating them into a powerhouse. You can move to a new city and build a new stadium, then draft real players from NCAA '05 college. In general, I liked this game than any other Madden. 2006 only has not improved in this game long enough for me.

8. Punch-Out (NES) - What child born in the years 70 or early 80's not spent hours and hours trying to beat Tyson with Little Mac?

7. Madden '94 (Genesis, SNES) - Based on memory this game was impressive. I remember being able to play with all the NFL teams and a lot of history. He was one of my favorite games growing sports. This this, I played it recently and breast. He can not even close to holding their own against Tecmo Super Bowl. The step is not realistic, and the compound strike several operating times the number button while tacklers bounce off your broker. It's so high just so much I remember enjoying as a child.

6. NBA Live '95 (Genesis, SNES) - This game would not have been realistic at all, but it was great fun running up and down the court firing up to three and vomiting alley-oops. That was the first NBA game by EA with every team and every field that also scores points. Not to mention, that this was the first game Camera 3 / 4 angle.

5. NFL Blitz (Arcade) - The football version of NBA Jam. Quick note, late hits and standards mad enough to throw multiple forward passes behind the line of scrimmage to make this great game. The arcade version was waaaay better than the PS or N64 versions.

4. NBA Jam (Arcade) - Between the arcade version and the console versions, I've played a lot of NBA Jam. It is one of the most original games ever. Who does not enjoy playing the crap out of people in the air or hitting three after three when they were on fire? This game hit me. The best part was getting all codes and play with pets and Bill Clinton.

3. Little League Baseball (NES) - I do not know why this game does not get more attention as one of the best sports games NES. The gameplay is the best of any NES baseball game - pitching, hitting, fielding and all are simple and feel unrealistic. Furthermore only something fun and unique to play with players from small leagues. As far as I know this is the only league baseball game ever, although I can be wrong. Adding emotion, some teams are much better than others. Want a challenge? Try to win a tournament with Italy, the worst team in the game. The replay value of LLB is incredible, and still play to this day.

2. NHL 94 (Genesis, SNES) - I love modern NHL games as much as anyone else, but this game is the best. I still play all the time. The quality of the game is amazing. Take away the easy wrap-around goals and playability are incredibly real, especially considering how old this game is. Oh, and for the record, they are playing NHL 93 in swinger, but talk of removing the fighting in NHL 94. Strange Right?

1. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) - This game was ahead of his time - editable playbooks and season long stat tracking were so cool back then. The gameplay is far from realistic but amazingly equal. For that reason, the game is still popular and there are tons of people still play in online leagues. The advent of emulators has allowed the publication of the lists - I've played versions of the game with lists as recently as 2004. Also There are versions with lists and lists of university USFL. The vagaries bit strange game as Bo Jackson was unstoppable, bouncing balls all over the place, the choice of moves guessing the offensive play defensive, 100 yard passes, etc make the game more fun. This game will never, ever get old.
