football when did it start

Byu Football Projections - Rise and Shout or down and out?

Let's start by giving credit where credit is due. The Cougars had an incredible 2006 season. They finished the season with a 11-2 record, including a 38-8 slaughter of the Oregon Ducks of the Pac-10. On the other hand, went on a winning streak to finish the season 9-0, the third longest in college football last year. In retrospect, could have and perhaps should have gone undefeated. Their losses were only two Children who bite their nails at the end of the game. In one, the Cougars lost a tough OT Boston College team and the other, they lost because of a few failed attempts field goal. So all in all I can say that the BYU football program did a good job last year.

The question now, however, is whether the Cougars can keep that momentum in 2007. Here's the skinny on the Pumas:

Much of its success during 2006 was due to a handful of players who had incredible seasons, that is John Beck, Curtis Brown, Johnny Harline and almost every one of linebackers. John Beck played so well that it was not uncommon to hear its name in the same sentence as Troy Smith, Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell. The core supporters made a magnificent season the Cougar defense was the best that has been in years even though their secondary was very questionable. Now however, each of those players is gone and now must BYU struggle to find suitable substitutes.

Therefore, the synopsis is as follows:

Crime - The Pumas will be very weak at quarterback, which has always been a big part of their success in the past. Neither player competing for the position that any significant game experience as Beck has been a constant in recent years. Moreover, despite their receptors are often quite solid, with many young players having to replace their statesmen, next season will be hit or miss to the receivers. The Pumas will be able to convert back the field with a certain amount of confidence, though, as I Vakapuna, who showed his worth last season, and Manase Tonga are some excellent racing and blocking.

Defense: Let's face Cougar fans. The defense this year can be a bit weak. Up front, most of the defensive line are freshmen or sophomore. That kind of youth does not bode well. Behind them, however, the story is much better. Kehl, Nixon and Poppinga are returning after a great season 2006. But losing their captain Cameron Jensen will hurt them. His leadership and the attitude of never giving BYU personified death last year. Still, however, I'm not worried about the linebackers. My concern is about high school. It seems that year after year, Brigham Young University started a lot of small backs mediocre defensively. And this year is no different. Although most of the secondary line is return (Gooch, Gabriel Criddle, Buchannan), I do not know how well will do when lining up outside the players with great athleticism. They may be able to defend themselves against the MWC some opponents, but not all of them. Therefore, we expect the linebackers be able to overcome the challenge of next year as they may not have that much support around him.

The criticism of the players and the positions above may paint a bleak picture for next season. However, there is some hope. Since Gary Crowton got the boot, Bronco Mendenhall has been determined to restore tradition and Puma soccer pride. And if the success of last season was an indication of their progess, I would say he is doing a great job. In addition, Robert Anae demonstrated his instinct and ability are an offensive genius. Beck was able to spray the ball to many different receivers and running backs that opposing defenses were simply unable to cover the entire world. With Anae to the head, many of BYU's offensive deficiencies, due to youth and inexperience will be less of a factor.

In summary, BYU is going to be young and inexperienced. But he has the coaching staff and tradition needed to propel the Cougars to another winning season. However, coaches are not the only in the field. So if BYU is to continue its winning ways this year, some new faces will have to adapt quickly to the increased competition that comes with football the NCAA and reach large at MWC this year.
