USC Trojans 2008 College Football Team presentation

USC finished the 2007 campaign with a 11-2 record capped by a convincing 49-17 win Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Southern Cal ranked second in the nation in scoring defense and allowed only 19 points per game. Also ranked second place nationally in total defense, allowing only 273.2 yards per game. Two losses in October (at home against Stanford and Oregon) ruined his bid for a season perfect and the national championship.

This season, the quarterback duties will be undertaken by junior Mark Sanchez. Sanchez won a seat in the spring of transfer Arkansas over Mitch Mustain. Sanchez has started only three games into the season. National Preparedness Former Player of the Year pitched seven passes touchdown and five interceptions in limited duty last season.

USC has a deep body of talented runners, including Stafon Johnson, CJ Gable experience junior and sophomore Joe McKnight super. Johnson rushed for 673 yards on only 98 carries last season for an average of 6.9 yards. We also have five touchdowns. Fullback Stanley Havilio, a solid receiver and blocker, also should help the USC rushing attack.

Vidal Hazleton and Patrick Turner returns like receptors wide base. It has to improve the performance of last season. They should seek help from Damian Williams, another Arkansas transfer, and Ronald Johnson. All-America Tight end Fred Davis has gone to the NFL, leaving junior Anthony McCoy to try to fill the huge void left by the departure of Davis.

Only one starter returns the offensive line last year and is the left guard Jeff Byers. The good news is that many of the new owners in this group saw extensive playing time last season due to injuries to starters last year. Center Kristofer O'Dowd played very well last season filling in for injured Matt Spanos. Charles Brown Zack Heberer and Butch Lewis also received a lot of playing time due to injury holders.

Head coach Pete Carroll's specialty is defense. I mentioned some earlier gains defensive USC 2007. This year's group has speed and athleticism at all levels and should also put some impressive numbers.

All-America candidate Rey Maualuga returns at middle linebacker and former Rose Bowl MVP Brian Cushing returns in strong-side linebacker. Kaluka Maiava should be the new owner in weak-side linebacker for a unit that should be among the best in the country.

It gets even better. Coach Carroll believes this year could be secondary be the best thing I've ever coached. It all starts with 6'4 "225-pound free safety Taylor Mays. Strong safety Kevin Ellison, an All-Pac 10 pick last season, combined with Mays to form what could be the best safety tandem in the nation.

The greatest loss of this defense is the output of PAC-10 Defensive Player Year Sedrick Ellis. Ellis, a nose tackle last season, is out of the NFL. Averell Spicer and Christian Tupou have some big shoes to fill trying to replace Ellis. The rest of the defensive line Fili Moala is another front in the spot and freshman All-American Kyle Moore and Everson Griffin at the ends.

Both kickers, kicker David Buehler and punter Greg Woidneck, return after solid 2007 campaigns. Southern California should get a great kick return the trio of McKnight, Gable and Ronald Johnson.

In 2008, the Trojans were trying to win 11 games and reach a BCS bowl game for the seventh consecutive season. QB Sanchez will have much to do with whether or not USC achieves that goal. USC has an easier time than he had last season. The most difficult games at home, including Ohio State, Oregon and Arizona. I hope the USC once again to challenge for a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.
