Why is Great Britain not to play football in the Olympics?
Historically, Britain has not competed in the Football in the Olympics because the four home nations (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) have been afraid that it might set a precedent and open the possibility that countries lose their individual representation with FIFA. All nations want to continue to compete separately at international level. 2012 Sepp Blatter Olympics has given a guarantee that the field a GB team will not affect this, so that by 2012 there may be a Great Britain team football.
