Can someone explain how the U.S. works football season?

I want to know how the season opening day the Super Bowl. What are the conferences? How did you decide? Who gets into the playoffs? Could, for example, teams Super Bowl and have played each other in the regular season? Do teams get relegated if they finish bottom of their conference? etc.
