And thinkers discuss whether leaders are born or made, so do the college football fans discuss whether the coach or the players on the team.

We will resolve the last argument once and for all coaches, make the team, not players. If not, then the players to recruit players while hiring coaches is that players, coaches with great players make the team successful as the program progresses.

Yes, it is true that even great coaches can not do much with rags for players, which is why immediately hire better players and coaches a day.

When the Seattle Mariners are going nowhere at 1,000 kilometers per hour, I immediately predicted success with the hiring of coach Lou Piniella. When the Seattle Seahawks were hanging around doing nothing, but occupying a space, to act as a football team but not playing as one, I immediately predicted success with the hiring of head coach Mike Holmgren. Holmgren was much larger than many of his players, and was not interested in excuses that they had accountability, and made you or you were gone. The Seahawks began immediately and dominated to win their division.

When the University of Washington Huskies went winless last year in 12 games and had some of the statistics the worst performer among all NCAA teams, I immediately predicted success with the hiring of new head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Nicknamed "Sark," Sarkisian is half Armenian, half Irish and winner all. Sarkisian and his staff hand-picked, including defensive coordinator Nick Holt, the Huskies get back the path to success, and will not make a career out of it. It will happen. You will witness a giant leap in its first year.

Sarkisian takes over a team who called these national qualifications crummy offense last year, by land (106 among 119 teams), passing offense (101st), total offense (116th), scoring offense (118th), rushing defense (117) passing defense (62nd), total defense (110th) and scoring defense (116th). Washington scored 13 points per game and gave an average of 38 points per game.

There is no way you can win games with these numbers lame. Was the Washington coaching staff last year, the worst in the nation? You better believe, is why they have abandoned the premises.

This is not a pretty picture of Sarkisian to inherit. However, you have to remember that Sark is a winner of the top of the head to the bottom of the feet. He spent 7 of his last 8 years in Southern California, first as quarterbacks coach and then as coordinator offensive assistant head coach.

During his tenure head coach Pete Carroll, USC was in a year EVERY BCS game for the past 7 years, unmatched by any team in college football. USC also has the highest winning percentage among teams from BCS-85% (6-1). Sarkisian record as offensive coordinator 2 years was 22-3, and called the offensive plays in the band.

Sark also coached two Heisman Trophy winners, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart in 2002 in 2004. It also has additional supervised NFL draft John David Booty and Mark Sanchez.

new Washington head coach was also a star quarterback Brigham Young University. As a senior, led the nation in passing efficiency and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) was the champion Cougars won 14-1 and in 1997 the Cotton Bowl.

Sark has been an outstanding winner as a player and coach. He knows how to win. He will not be surrounded by a bunch of losers at the University Washington.

Virtually all the players want to win, but at least now have the will to prepare to win. Sark quickly find out who will pay the money to improve and have fun in the process. Those who can not cut the mustard will be watching a lot of football games instead of playing them.

At 35, Steve Sarkisian is one of the youngest head coaches in college football program more important. Never mind. The fact that a coach has 15 years experience not doing good. Competition, address, view, focus and enthusiasm all have more.

The Pac 10 Conference media types recently came out with its survey preseason, getting Washington to finish 9th, just ahead of 10th place in Washington state.

The more I hear about coach Steve Sarkisian and assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Nick Holt, the better I like Washington's chances to exceed expectations with a better finish 9th place.

The last word in the field of practice is that the attackers will legally Husky cutting block, a very important element in the zone-blocking system. Holt is going to know who can beat down and the players can not. Those who can not will spend less time in the field.

Cut blocking is legal when the block falls below the a defender's knee with his helmet in front of the defender. It is illegal block occurs in the defense of the side or back, or when a defender blocked another offensive player.

Doug Nussmeier will be the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach of the Huskies. Washington opens its season at home Saturday, September 5, against the State Louisiana (LSU), 1 of 6 preseason top 25 teams the Huskies will face this season (the others are USC, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State and California). Yikes!

Washington fans and boosters are fired up for improvement, but is sick and tired of being slapped around teams the Huskies used to dominate, especially when Don James was at the helm. The brand Dawgfather career in Washington was 153-57-2 (73%) from 1975 to 1992 and the team went to 14 bowl games, winning 10. They also went to bowl games in 9 consecutive years.
