The Italians are good at football?

The precise year eludes my memory but it is certainly argue that it was sometime between World Cup Germany 1974 and 1978, the World Cup in Argentina that I decided to see what all the fuss about football was when I decided to join my father in watching a match. Not that I remember I was playing but I do not think to ask as I was more concerned with learning the rules of the game.

As for my father, whose name also was Gianni (who died this year) I knew him to be a football fan (calcium being what the Italians call it) or growing sport in the U.S. heard referred to as "soccer", how many times I had seen in my parents' room or living room watching a match with friends and family. I had observed how strong action would be in the room when at the moment do not even know what the game was ready. My father told me then with some pride that Italy was one of the best in this sport and that Italy had won the World Championship on two occasions even though he did not forget to mention this has been a long time ago in 1934 and 1938.

By then, the year was 1977, during the latter part and told me the following week, Italy was playing a match against England, which would determine which of them would be playing in the next World Cup scheduled to take place in Argentina. This match between England and Italy was the first game I remember seeing that I said was that in which Italy did not need to win and could even afford to lose up to two goals, of course, he told me that if Italy were to lose by three, then it would be England, which would go to the World Cup as Italy would be eliminated.

As the game got underway, England failed to score much in the form of a header from a curly-haired player by the name of Kevin Keegan which is a zero for the English. The next match was not so good for Italy as it saw us closer to 0 with Germany Western (then World Champion) in a match that saw us do everything but score as Italy hit the post and had a guard on the line by Kaltz, a German defender. The second game of the quarterfinal round of Italy was returned to winning ways by beating Austria 1 to 0 with a goal 16 minutes to Rossi.
