Game Results
Sports most popular are betting on NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with basic bet on the outcome of a game (also called betting the side). Point spreads are used in football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. (See our article that explains how and why they do point spreads)
But it could also simply bet the money line, or straight-up winning the game.
Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked in the winner preferred or expected, and less money on the favorite to balance action on both sides. While gambling money line is an attractive option for football and bettors basketball who only care about picking a winner, is the main option for bettors who enjoy betting on the MLB baseball and individual sports such as boxing, tennis, golf and racing events like NASCAR. Points (or Runs) Scored
Another bet in all team sports such as football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and is betting on the number of points in a game called Over / Under total. For example, the Over / Under total in Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, meaning a gambler can bet on whether there will be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21, the score of both teams rose to 45, meaning left in the game. So under bettors won and lost over bettors.
Futures
Sports betting does not stop there. Betting sides and totals are the most common bets available everywhere, but many bookmakers offer future bets on big events, such as who will win next year's Super Bowl and winning Best Motion Picture in the Oscar.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, the future of the NFL that you can get often much more likely betting on a team before the season starts. A future bet on an NFL team to win the Super Bowl might be 20 / 1 in preseason, but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10 / 1 if it becomes legitimate championship contenders.
Proposition bets (Or Prop Bets)
Proposition bets, also known as Proposition bets, focus on the most exotic game and generally reserves for events that are widely televised. Prop bets are extremely popular when it comes to betting on the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. The bookmaker Palace Imperial Casino is well known for the enormous number of prop bets offered. For example, you can bet on:
Which team will win the coin toss
Which player will score the first touchdown of the game
What will be the exact margin of victory
Betting Types
Straight Bet
It involves a single bet, either on your computer to cover the point spread to win the game straight up in the money line, or to get more / less than total.
Parlay
A parlay is a single bet that links together two or more individual wagers and is dependent on all those winning bets together. The benefit of the parlay bet is likely much better than placing each individual bet separately since the difficulty of hitting is much higher.
standard payments in a parlay two teams are 13 / 5, while one in three Teamer pays 6 / 1, and one of four Teamer 10 / 1.
Parlay cards also quite common in bookmakers and popular with bettors, as they are released earlier this week with odds set that do not change in exchange for slightly lower returns.
Round Robin
Adventurous bettors who enjoy betting sometimes combined together a series called Round Robin parlays. A three-team Round Robin consists of a three-team parlay and three two-team combined. For example, Joe likes teams A, B, C - with a Round Robin has a three Teamer with ABC, and two teamers with AB, AC, and BC.
Teaser
Similar to a "parlay, a teaser bet is a single bet that links together two or more individual bets, but it is different because the point spread conforms to your advantage on each individual bet. In exchange for the points, you get less of a return on your bet compared to a parlay. For example, a teaser of 6 percentage points move the line in a favorite of 7 points from -7 to -1, which means that the team would have to cover less than 6 points. Each of the individual bets must win or bet is a loss.
These are the main types of sports available today. But as sports betting continues to grow, bookmakers continue to develop new and creative forms of betting. We will continue to track these changes in the landscape of sports betting, so check back often and tell all!
