when football was started

Chelsea Football Club

On March 14, 1905 in Rising Sun Tavern - now called The Butchers Hook - in Fulham Road, London, businessman Henry Mears, along with others formed a football club and named it Chelsea. Fulham have been the ideal title, which unfortunately had already been taken. Before this, in 1904, Mears had bought Stamford Bridge with the intention of having soccer clubs play their home games there, in particular, Fulham, who refused. With this, Mears decided create your own football club.

Like countless other clubs, Chelsea tried to play in the Southern League, but with - and no surprise - and Fulham clubs were denied the objection. Mears friend and colleague, Fred Parker then applied for Chelsea to play in the Football League. With a bit of speaking well and Parker persuasion to the appropriate individuals were recognized Chelsea Football League May 5, 1905.

Scottish football player and manager John Tait Robertson was hired as coach of Chelsea, and lost no time in finding talent for the Club, one of these huge was the 6 '4 ", 22 stone, William" Fatty "Foulke, who had already tasted success with Sheffield United, who won the FA Cup.

Chelsea did not go to the best of starts, losing their first away game against Stockport County 1-0 in the second in September 1905. His first home game but had a more sweet when they beat Liverpool 4-0. For his first season in the Second Division, made a worthy challenge and managed to finish third.

In January 1907, Robertson left for Glossop, a football club based in Derbyshire. Behind closed doors, the Board of Directors of Chelsea, typically over ruled the Configuration Manager team and players to play, as Robertson and appropriately so was the role of manager and his position became untenable. A Mr. William Lewis Robertson replaced for a while ha. It was the first Secretary Chelsea Club and started as a soccer referee. Unexpectedly, Lewis guided Chelsea to promotion at the end of the season, assisted by the gifts Cup and the first player to score 100 goals for the club, George Hilsdon. Lewis was replaced by the longest serving director of Chelsea, David Calderhead. It was the club for an amazing 26 years and a long spell at Chelsea should not have been more achievements to his credit. Even his son, David junior time at Chelsea as a player, while his father managed. In total Calderhead oversaw the Chelsea playing 966 games.

It was not until 1952 that Chelsea began to have an impact on the game with his new manager Ted Drake. Drake was a former football player himself, starting his career with Southampton, but his time at Arsenal is where she gained recognition. Unlike its predecessors, Drake felt more comfortable equipped as a player and not as a manger and he was exceptional for him in a suit. In the old days has gone Boards interference, Drake was proposed improve the club. Ball work was laid on training and instead look to the transfer of large signings explorers were sent to look for hungry children talent that would bring gifts from football to Chelsea. And it was no longer the owner of Chelsea for this was to be replaced by the lion rampant crest. Fans were urged to be behind the club and the team in unison. Patience is needed because it was not until the 1954/55 season for things to start falling into place and Chelsea were starting to look and feel like a football club with ambition. And they were winning the League title with a close the Wolverhampton Wanderers in second place behind only 4 points. Even more intriguing is that most of the staff of Chelsea fans were considered with the exception of Roy Bentley. Drake was difficult to repeat this achievement the following season and Chelsea finished in the bottom half of the table. Football gift to shine through the club was the best scorer and record holder the club, scoring 41 goals in a season, Jimmy Greaves, but he left for AC Milan in 1961. Without their presence, and the balls that once compensated, Chelsea drift down the table which means that it was time for a change and Drake was fired by the Board.

There was nothing new manager Tom Docherty could do to avoid relegation to Division 2. He tried several techniques and in doing so, he sold many of the players in aging. Luckily, Chelsea had to many talented players coming and youth they were eager to prove themselves, along with other gifts of soccer. Among these Ron "Chopper" Harris, Bobby Tambling, Peter Bonetti and Terry Venables available all Docherty. With a squad of such talent now rebuilt, Chelsea finished second in Division 2 and shame in their final match with Portsmouth 7-0 victory. In his first season back in Division 1 who finished fifth in the table and the season that followed won the League Cup. There are trophy cabinet had room for more, but Chelsea lost the FA Cup against Manchester United.

Docherty blew hot and cold and did create tensions with some players, especially Terry Venables, one to speak his mind. Venables later signed with Tottenham Hotspur, where this time his old teammate was Jimmy Greaves. Ironically of Docherty and the club played against Tottenham in the first all London FA Cup final and Chelsea's first appearance in a Wembley final. Chelsea lost 2-1 and not much Docherty after he was fired.

Chelsea really turned the corner in the mid 90s. 1996 saw the gifts of soccer legend Ruud Gullit takes charge Manager Glenn Hoddle decided to try his luck England management, as with not much success. Gullit had instant success in his first season, winning FA Cup, a first significant trophy for 26 years and sixth in the league, the best position of Chelsea since 1990. Unfortunately, in 1998, Gullit was fired for a disagreement contract with the board. His replacement was 33 years old Gianluca Vialli and a short time the club had won two trophies, the League Cup and Cup Winners' Cup. In 2000 Vialli, with a squad of quality that was to Zola, Ed de Goey, Frank Leboeuf and Poyet, lifted the FA Cup with a victory against Aston Villa. Then beat Manchester United 2-0 to add the Charity Shield. Vialli now became the most successful manager of Chelsea. Interestingly, Vialli was also fired by the club in the same season so must be due to a bad start, losing five games in the rebound.

In 2003 Chelsea were in trouble financially with £ 80 million value of debt hanging over your head. Suddenly, Ken Bates, who brought the Club in 1981 by only a pound was sold to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich for £ 60 million, which Bates scored a good profit. Abramovich made his wealth through the mass of the Russian oil industry, exceptionally cheap to buy and then sell to international companies.

Now the club had no debts and massive funds to buy players like Joe Cole, Geremi, Glen Johnston, to name a few.

On the campaign trail 2004/05, Abramovich used the activist Jose Mourinho to succeed as Chelsea manager Ranieri. Until its replacement, Ranieri had created a series of good results for Chelsea and helped them finish as runners in the league. It seems somewhat unforgiving the reason he was fired, but the changes made in staff training by Ranieri during a semifinal with AC Monaco Chelsea, who lost in the end was enough to Abramovich that replaced it.

2004/05 season slow compared to brands Mourinho, but it gained momentum gradually. In the company of football gifts as Lampard, Cole, Arjen Robben, Ricardo Carvalho and captain John Terry, Chelsea were beginning to gain more and more games. In November, who beat Everton place on the table and never looked back. The skills of outstanding goalkeepers Petr Cech gave him his own beat the 1025 minutes without a goal against him. Two goals from Lampard, the game against Bolton Wanderers was over and so was the fight for the title. He had been fifty years since their last league title. In addition, this gave Chelsea twice in their 2-0 win over Liverpool FC at the beginning of the year. The Club was going to treble in the Champions League. In the semifinal, they found their Liverpool's old rivals again. This time the club had different ideas Scouse and Chelsea did not get the same result had earlier lost 1-0 to a team Liverpool to defend itself was impeccable. The season after seeing Chelsea retain their league title and a visit to Anfield, which sparked something special in their armies, annihilate 4-1. Manchester United were close on the heels towards the end of the season, but Chelsea went to sleep at Stamford Bridge, United's 3-0 beating. Also becomes the only London club win two league titles in consecutive years. Mourinho's Chelsea will no doubt become the team to beat at this time.

The following 2006/07 season saw the Chelsea has only a slight dip in form but not enough to stop them from winning the League Cup, beating Arsenal 2-1. Manchester United were back at the top of the league tables, but Chelsea still in the form of super went on to win the FA Cup again, beating United 1-0 at Wembley Stadium again.

At that time, we know that Mourinho and Abramovich did not see the faces on many issues and with Mourinho no one to turn back, decided to leave Stamford Bridge in September 2007. This was certainly a sad day for Chelsea Football Club and the millions of fans worldwide. There is general agreement that Jose Mourinho, whether you love or hate brought him many gifts and football at Chelsea will be very difficult to replace.

Israeli Avram Grant replaced Jose Mourinho but the club lacked the success they were used as well. He managed to lead them to the Champions League final but lost to Manchester United on penalties, then Grant was fired shortly thereafter.

It was then that Luiz Felipe Scolari, in turn, manger worldwide known and respected, who had brought glory to the Brazil team at the 2002 World Cup. Once again, fired after another short period of time, February 9, 2009.

1 June 2009, Carlo Ancelotti took over temporary manager Guus Hiddink. It is still early, but days of Chelsea Ancelotti first game in charge was for the Community Shield against Manchester United, which ended 2-2. Chelsea won 4-1 through penalties. With that, he was Chelsea's first win make sanctions more than 10 years.

Cosby pulls in the listener by introducing his only mildly humorous stori...

History is peppered with oddments and ironies, and one of the strangest is this. That informal truce began with small acts: here...
