Where Did Football Started

What is the best way to learn about football. I made a promise to learn about it, so where do you start?
I I know a little about a quarterback and what they do, but that's about it. I love to go to a game next season, but I have some kind of knowledge about the game.
Well I just went through this last season teaching my (then) new girlfriend of my favorite sport. I think this is the best way, to sit with someone who is there to teach the basics and answer all your questions. I also like to recommend a book to you (since you will not find much football on television now.) It's called "Get Your Own Damn Beer, I'm watching the game!: A Woman's Guide to Loving Pro Football" by Holly Peete. Both copies my girlfriend's mother and step of the work itself. Mrs. Pette is married to former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete and gets into a lot of depth in a way oversimplified. It is a great read!
